President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja — a meeting that has intensified national attention surrounding the ongoing push for the release of the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Although the Presidency has not released the official agenda of the discussion, highly placed sources reveal that the meeting centered strongly on the renewed political and legal strategies aimed at securing Kanu’s freedom.
Otti’s Visit Follows His Trip to Sokoto Prison
The development comes shortly after Governor Otti paid a high-profile visit to Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto prison facility, where the IPOB leader is currently serving a life sentence following his November 20, 2025 conviction on terrorism-related charges.
Governor Otti’s visit was not isolated. It was part of a broader, coordinated effort involving political leaders, legal experts, and Kanu’s family to explore all legitimate avenues for his release.
Delegation Present During Otti’s Visit
During the Sokoto visit, Governor Otti was accompanied by:
Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu
Abia Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN)
Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma
Officials of the Sokoto State Government
This delegation underscored the seriousness of the conversations held and the growing momentum behind the push for Kanu’s freedom.
Otti Reaffirms Commitment to Securing Kanu’s Release
Governor Otti has repeatedly emphasized that resolving Nnamdi Kanu’s matter is a core priority for his administration. Speaking through his media aide after the prison visit, Otti vowed to continue pursuing all agreed-upon strategies until a positive outcome is achieved.
He stated:
“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I want to assure you that I have activated and will continue to work on the agreed strategy until his freedom is secured.”
For many supporters and observers, Otti’s engagement with President Tinubu represents a significant step — one that may shape the next chapter in a case that has affected Nigeria’s political landscape for years.
